Grants and Bursaries

The Biochemical Society offers a programme of grants for all career stages supporting research, attendance at scientific conferences, and the sponsorship of events. Members of the Biochemical Society are also eligible for FEBS Fellowships and IUBMB Fellowships.

General Travel Grants
Funding of up to £1,500 to support attendance at face-to-face scientific meetings, workshops, and training courses.

Funding of up to £2,000 is available to support collaborative visits to UK and international laboratories.

Online Attendance Grants
Online Attendance Grants are available to cover the registration fees for online meetings, training courses, and workshops. These grants can cover livestream attendance at a Society meeting as well as external opportunities.

This scholarship provides funding during a PhD and rewards exceptional academic distinction.

Eric Reid Fund for Methodology
This fund provides modest financial support for benchwork. The emphasis is on methodology, with a preference for cellular or bioanalytical work.

Events Sponsorship
Grants of up to £500 to assist with the independent organisation of scientific meetings, training events, single lectures or small events.

Bursaries

Care and Assistance Grants
Care and Assistance Grants provide additional funding to cover participation in a Society meeting or training course. The grant is open to all additional support needs, including but not limited to, carer support, childcare, disability, and accessibility needs.

Summer Vacation Studentships offer funding to carry out 6 week summer placements for undergraduate students in biochemistry and related subjects.

Travel Award for International Skills and Knowledge Exchange
Funding of up to £2,000 is available to support research capacity building in lower-income economy parts of the world.
