75 mins
This webinar covered approaches to tacking AMR in collaborative, interdisciplinary and sustainable ways, exploring the roles of different players, from the R&D community to policymakers.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has been described by the World Health Organization as a threat to global health and development. If left unchecked, it has been estimated that it will cause 10 million deaths per annum by 2050 and could drive 28 million people into extreme poverty. Building on recent updates to the Biochemical Society's policy position statement on AMR, this webinar explored further the approaches required to combat AMR with stakeholders from the AMR community.
Invited Speakers:
- Professor Laura JV Piddock (Scientific Director, Global Antibiotic Research & Development Partnership & Emeritus Professor of Microbiology, University of Birmingham)
- Dr Tim Jinks (Head of Interventions, Infectious Disease, Wellcome Trust)
- Baroness Natalie Bennett of Manor Castle (Green party peer and Secretary to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Antibiotics)
This session was chaired by Dr Tailise de Souza Guerreiro (University of Warwick)
