As Managing Editor, Niamh is responsible for championing author/researcher engagement to drive submissions and grow the profile of our journals, and works collaboratively with our international Editorial Boards to develop and implement content strategies. Niamh also oversees all aspects of the editorial workflows and the Portland Press research-data policy, with a commitment to adapting to meet researcher needs and delivering first-class service for authors and referees.

Zara is the Managing Editor of Bioscience Reports, Biochemical Society Transactions and Emerging Topics in the Life Sciences. Zara oversees the content strategy and peer-review workflows for these journals, as well as managing relationships with our Editorial Boards.

Kimberly Bayley-Tweed
As Production Manager, Kimberly oversees production workflow across the Portland Press portfolio, with special focus on Bioscience Reports, Clinical Science, and Emerging Topics in Life Sciences, ensuring good communication with authors, editorial and vendor teams throughout the publication process. Kimberly also manages downstream deposits, supplier relations and journal workflows to ensure consistency, quality, and timely delivery of all Portland Press publications and their associated collateral.

Nich manages the production process for Biochemical Journal, Biochemical Society Transactions, Essays in Biochemistry, Neuronal Signalling and The Biochemist. Nich also oversees the progress of articles from acceptance to publication and compiles each journal to publish as scheduled.

Olivia works closely with the journals’ Editorial Boards to set and deliver commissioning and content strategy. This includes developing themed collections, and inviting contributions to our journals to boost high quality publications that will be helpful resources to the bioscience community.

As Commissioning Editor, Katie works closely with the Managing Editor and the journals’ Editorial Boards to commission high-quality content for the Biochemical Journal and Clinical Science. Katie contributes to the development of themed collections and the implementation of journal commissioning plans to support the overall publishing strategy of the journals.

Dani has been working at the Biochemical Society and Portland Press since 2020 as an Editorial Assistant for Bioscience Reports. Dani works alongside the Managing Editor to oversee the peer-review process of submitted papers, commission new authors to write review articles and assist with ethical procedures for the journal

As an Editorial Assistant, Rebecca quality-assures journal submissions and oversees the progression of papers from submission through to the final decision. Rebecca communicates with authors, reviewers and Associate Editors to assist them with any difficulties they may have and to ensure the timely administration of the peer review process.

Sam Newman
Sam works alongside the Managing Editor of the journals Biochemical Society Transactions and Emerging Topics in Life Sciences. In this role, Sam commissions potential authors and guest editors and helps to oversee the life cycle of peer-reviewed mini-review articles.

Jessica Heath
As a Commissioning Assistant, Jessica is responsible for the copy-flow of fully commissioned journals. This includes securing guest editors, suggesting topics, and ensuring the articles within the issues are ready for production within the established timelines.
