The Biochemical Society’s EDI Toolkit

News, Mar 06 2025

The Biochemical Society’s EDI Toolkit is one of the many ways we have shown our on-going commitment to place equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) at the heart of our strategy. As part of this, we’re pleased to share updates to this resource for our community.

The toolkit contains and signposts a range of EDI-related content including:

  • Guidance Notes – Our EDI Advisory Panel has produced a variety of guidance notes to support good practice in a number of areas, including accessible communications, governance meetings and the reviewing of trustee nominations.
  • Policies – We share our EDI Data Policy, Bullying and Harassment policy, and the newly developed EDI in Society Events statement, all of which have been introduced as we continue to move to centralise EDI within our work.
  • Support – Our grants portfolio contains a range of support sources related to EDI, including Care and Assistance Grants and Diversity in Science Grants.
  • Glossary – We've brought together a non-exhaustive glossary of terms related to EDI that are commonly used in discussions and articles.
  • Further resources – Our further resources list is a great place to access links to some of the organisations that our EDI team is working with, along with links to some different organisations that provide important information about EDI in STEM.

"We are excited to continue working towards an accessible and inclusive environment for all. As part of this ongoing commitment, we're pleased to share this resource with our community, and look forward to adding to this over time with contributions from the Society's EDI Advisory Panel and our wider community."

Dr Amanda Marie James, Chair of the Society's EDI Advisory Panel
