Creating an accessible and inclusive environment for all
News, Nov 21 2023
The Biochemical Society remains committed to placing equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) considerations at the heart of our strategy, supported by our Manifesto for Change in which we've stated our intention to create awareness, take action and hold ourselves accountable. As part of this ongoing commitment, we're pleased to share our EDI Toolkit, created to provide a non-exhaustive resource for our community.
The toolkit contains and signposts a range of EDI-related content including:
- Guidance Notes – Our EDI Advisory Panel has produced a variety of guidance notes to support good practice in a number of areas, including accessible communications, governance meetings and the reviewing of trustee nominations.
- Policies – We share our EDI Data Policy and Bullying and Harassment policy, both of which have been introduced as we move to centralise EDI within our work.
- Support – Our grants portfolio contains a range of support sources related to EDI, including Care and Assistance Grants and Diversity in Science Grants.
- Glossary – We've brought together a glossary of terms related to EDI that are commonly used in discussions and articles.
- Further resources – A number of external resources are signposted to direct readers appropriately.
"We are excited to continue working towards an accessible and inclusive environment for all. As part of this ongoing commitment, we're pleased to share this resource with our community, and look forward to adding to this over time with contributions from the Society's EDI Advisory Panel and our wider community."
Dr Amanda Marie James, Chair of the Society's EDI Advisory Panel
