Biochemical Society appoint new CEO

The Biochemical Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Phil Morgan as their new Chief Executive Officer. Phil will take over from Kate Baillie when she retires in December 2024, after more than 12 years in post which has seen a transformation of the business to capitalize on the synergies across the breadth of our scientific content, as well as ensuring that the organization is at the forefront of working practice innovation.

 

Phil is currently the CEO of The Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM), and he will take up his post on 2 December 2024. Over the last four and a half years as IPEM Chief Executive Phil has overseen a transformation of the organization’s strategic direction, delivering growth across all areas whilst managing the challenge from Open Access. Prior to his role at IPEM Phil worked as Deputy Chief Executive for the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, focusing on successful strategic delivery.

 

Professor Dame Julia Goodfellow, President of the Biochemical Society said:

“I am delighted to welcome Phil to the Biochemical Society. It is an exciting time as we look to develop our next strategic plan and the many exciting opportunities to work across the sector.”

 

Following the news of his appointment, Phil said:

“I am very pleased to have been given the opportunity to join the Trustees and staff of the Biochemical Society, as they begin the process of defining a new strategy. I look forward to building on the firm foundations laid by Kate Baillie and her team to meet the challenges that face the sector in the future.”

 

Phil will lead on the delivery of the Society’s strategic objectives in support of the molecular bioscience community.
