Biochemical Society and TIB to sign OA agreement
News, Oct 24 2024
The Biochemical Society, its publishing arm, Portland Press and TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology are delighted to announce an Open Access (OA) agreement that supports the open sharing of research and knowledge from across the molecular biosciences.
The three year agreement will cover a consortium of German institutions. It supports the aims of the Society and consortium to use business models that produce equitable and inclusive outcomes in pursuit of OA, free for authors at the point of publication.
With this agreement, nineteen institutions across Germany will pledge renewals under the Subscribe to Open model with the majority topping up to guarantee OA publishing in all the Society’s journals, including its fully OA title.
Chair of Portland Press, Professor Nigel Hooper, said of this agreement:
“We welcome the partnerships built on the mutual desire to achieve fee-free OA for all of our authors and thank TIB for their ongoing support”
Dr. Irina Sens, deputy director of TIB, comments:
“In late 2018 Portland Press and TIB signed their first subscription-based consortium agreement. We are delighted that over the past six years the publisher has made the move first to offer Read & Publish and – going forward – to operate the five hybrid journals of the Biochemical Society under the framework of Subscribe to Open. TIB is supportive of all business models that increase Open Access at sustainable costs for institutions and appreciates Portland Press’ commitment to explore this APC-free approach that will benefit the global research community."
