Martin Hindle
Martin Hindle
Martin is currently Independent Chair of East Midlands Academic Health Science Network and a member of Court of University of Leicester.
He was previously, Chair of University Hospitals of Leicester, Chair of Porton Biopharma Ltd, Vice Chair of the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA)
In addition, he has held Non- Executive roles in Public Health England, National Biological Standards Board, National Blood Authority and the Health Protection Agency.
Martin has held Board and senior executive roles in international pharmaceuticals in Europe, Japan and USA.
He holds an MSc in Industrial Administration, a degree in Pharmacy and is a Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
Professor Frank Sargent
Professor Frank Sargent
Frank is the Dean of the Biosciences Institute (NUBI) and holds a Personal Chair in Microbial Biotechnology at Newcastle University. He joined the University in August 2018, first as a Professor in the Faculty of Science, Agriculture & Engineering and from 2022 as a Professor in the Faculty of Medical Sciences. He studied biochemistry at the University of Edinburgh, followed by a PhD in the then Department of Biochemistry at the University of Dundee before moving to Norwich as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant. In 2000 Frank was awarded a Royal Society University Research Fellowship to lead his own research group in the School of Biological Sciences, University of East Anglia. In 2007 Frank returned to the University of Dundee to take up a Personal Chair in Bacterial Physiology in the then College of Life Sciences. Frank was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2011.
Paul Green
Paul Green
Paul’s career in corporate communications has been within highly regulated environments - ensuring compliance with a variety of legal and other requirements. He has worked with both internal and external audits in the private and public sector. Paul has been the corporate communications director for a FTSE 250 business, and involved with financial services, travel, healthcare and publishing sectors. He has also been a pension fund trustee and responsible for the operations of several charities. Paul is now a freelance public policy adviser and his public service includes being a part-time judge in Kent.
Paul says: “One of my personal interests is the importance of science in society, and I appreciate that in order to maximise the Biochemical Society’s positive impact we need to underpin activity with sound governance, risk management and financial scrutiny. I believe my independent and open-minded approach will be beneficial in supporting the work of the Audit Committee and thereby help ensure the sure-footed delivery of our charitable objectives.”
Jamaria Kong
Jamaria Kong
Jamaria is a Managing Director at TowerBrook Capital Partners and a Non-Executive Director of Azzurri Group. She is also a trustee at Rosetrees Trust, a charitable foundation that funds cutting edge medical research across all illnesses.
Previously, Jamaria was an independent management consultant to private equity firms and large corporates. Jamaria was formerly the Managing Partner at Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s advisory and consulting services. Prior to that, Jamaria was an Associate Director at EY’s transaction advisory services and an Executive Advisor at KPMG’s deal advisory team.
Jamaria earned her B.Sc. in Business Information Technology and M.Com. in International Business from the University of New South Wales in Australia. She is also a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and a Certified Information System Auditor with ISACA.
