Following the launch of the Life Sciences Industrial Strategy in 2017, the House of Lords Science and Technology Select Committee published ‘Life Sciences Industrial Strategy: Who’s driving the bus?’ in April 2018, calling for bold steps from Government to ensure that the Strategy is implemented effectively. Yesterday, 27 June the Department of Health and Social Care and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy responded to the report published by the House of Lords, addressing each of their recommendations in turn.

Commenting on their response, Dr David Pye, Honorary Policy Officer of the Biochemical Society said:

‘The Society welcomes this response to the concerns and recommendations made in the ‘Life Sciences Industrial Strategy: Who’s driving the bus?’ and the progress that has been made since the announcement of the Industrial Strategy in 2017. We particularly welcome the positive steps being taken to ensure engagement and uptake by Industry. The Society acknowledges the response to the concerns regarding the Life Sciences Sector Deal and hopes the Government will actively pursue further sector deals for other areas of the life sciences such as plant sciences and biotechnology.’
